Customer Rating: Summary: Version 2 - Nonsensical Program Design Comment: Wow - is the new version of Rosetta Stone horrible. The logic that is used to go from lesson to lesson is utterly nonsensical and mind boggling. No prompts telling you to speak, listen, type - its tough enough to learn a language - never mind trying to figure out what the program wants you to do. If you are an older person who is not computer savvy - you're plain out of luck. Obviously there was ZERO/ZED user testing done on this sad excuse for a software program. Its confusing and I highly DO NOT recommend battling with this crap. Stay away.
Customer Rating: Summary: Overpriced piece of junk! Comment: If you considering buying this, then my warning- don't! You will lose a lot of money for nothing. You can buy a good dictionary, paper grammar and spend some time with spanish speaking people. That will be more effective and cheaper. Don't get into hype that you will learn much with this program- celebrity endorsements are simply funny and just proves that this program is useless. Check out on Rosetta Stone website what Michael Phelps has to say. You have to understand that he will endorse anything what pays him. I don't blame him, but in a video he admits that he DID NOT learned much using this software. $500 dollars might be pocket change for him (he didn't paid anyway), but not for me. So this is part one of software review. If it costed $20 I would say give a try and use other means to learn language.
Second part deals with software itself. I can say that it is quite unfinished. It has problems with microphone, antivirus software. Also you can use it only on two computers. It constantly tries to update itself even after you check DO NOT update tab.
So my advice- save your money. Get paper dictionary and grammar. Take some classes, speak with people in their native language, read periodicals.
Customer Rating: Summary: A different way to learn a language Comment: I purchased spanish(castilian, spain) about a year ago, though this isn't Latin American spainish, I would imagine that this is still very similar.
This is definitely a different, new way to learn a language. It breaks away from the usual workbooks, flashcards and cd's/tapes. What is good about RS is that it makes learning more fun and less tedious. I actually look forward to putting on my headset and learning new material. I think that is the strongest point about RS, it doesn't bore you. And if you want to learn a language, you must be persistent and motivated. It's very hard to be like that through workbooks, classes, etc.
I'm on level 3 now and I have learned a lot. RS is most practical through conversational spanish, however you will not learn all the grammar rules through RS alone. RS doesn't explain the grammatical rules, you must learn it on your own. Without an explanation, its near impossible to learn ALL the rules. That is it's downfall, you cannot become fluent, but you can develop pretty good knowledge of it. To be fluent, you need to buy seperate workbooks that explain all the congugations and other grammar rules.
So if you want to learn spanish as quickly as possible, with decent language grammar, and have more of a "fun" experience with it then RS is a good choice. However, if you want to become fluent (or at least very solid grammar) then you must get extra workbooks, material that explains the grammar rules completely. With the combination of both, you are one an excellent path to learning spanish quickly and effectively.
Customer Rating: Summary: Love it. Comment: I had tried it out at a friends house and liked the way it worked out. Have been using it for a while. Is nice. I have learned some. Still have a long way to go but it is teaching me. Companion cd is nice to hear the words later too. USB microphone works good.
Customer Rating: Summary: rosetta stone Comment: great easy to use - the only issue is the headset/microphone was broken - sent request for new one did not get reply
