Customer Rating: Summary: Don't waste your time or money Comment: Canon Pixma MP470 Photo All-In-One Inkjet Printer (2177B002)
I bought a Canon MP470 for my wife. She is a school teacher so I thought that she could use something like this at home, a printer/copier/scanner, so she doesn't have to wait in line during school hours. Anyway, I bought this product thru Amazon thinking that this was a great deal... $75 for an all in one! I was so wrong. It worked fine for about a month and then there was a mysterious paper jam. I searched and searched but there was not even a fragment of paper in the machine. So, we tried again. We purchased the same model from a local dept store. I set up the machine and this time it did not even print one page successfully. The printer would not feed the paper thru to print, then again I received the annoying paper jam error when nothing even made it to the printer.
My advice. Pay a little extra. $75 for an all in one is too good to be true. Your machine may be working fine now but the time will come. I have spent more than $75 of my own time trying to troubleshoot. Instead, I am going back to the manufacturer and demanding my money back... not a replacement... a full refund.
This was my first Canon product. I thought they had a good reputation in this market, but I guess they tried to get too cheap. Never again... I will stick with Lexmark or Epson from here on out for my printing needs.
Customer Rating: Summary: Avoid this printer Comment: While on the surface it may seem like a decent enough printer it has one glaring actually horrible flaw ! You can shove a load of paper in the back and very often it doesnt recognize it is their. It says load paper on pc screen when its loaded .You are holding the paper in loader at all different places. And sometimes you do this for ten minutes than by some grace of god luck it than starts printing and recognizes paper in back as being loaded.
This is ridiculous that this happens the most basic operation you put paper in back and sometimes/often it doesnt say it is their even though it is.
Avoid this or buy it and have it happen to you dozens of times, maybe hundreds depending how often you print and you will regret it I assure you.I threw it out .I am not going to stand over some flawed equipment playing with paper and loading it.Its loaded and it should print and it doesnt, not very pleasant.
Customer Rating: Summary: Research before you buy.... Comment: researched this printer on consumer reports and was able to purchase on here for less $$ even with the shipping.
Ooh and it also prints well.
Customer Rating: Summary: AVOID: Wastes Color Ink on B&W only Printing Comment: I've owned this printer for 4 months and print only B&W, using my Epson 2200 as my dedicated photo printer. With the MP470, checking "Greyscale" printing AND going into Maintenance / Ink Cartridge Settings and configuring the printer to use ONLY black ink (per user manual), my color ink has been nearly depleted. I leave the printer on 24/7 because I know printers often use up ink on every power cycle to charge the cartridges (I have an elec. eng. degree). The printer will not work if the color ink cartridge is removed. There's no legitimate reason for this $70 printer, with these settings, to go through $25 worth of color ink when doing only B&W printing. When this is completely out of ink I plan on throwing it away and buying another brand. It'll be cheaper than paying Canon to waste my ink, to say nothing of the increased polution in printer cartridges.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great Printer for the price! Comment: We have only had this printer for a couple of months now but we are happy with it. No problems. It is a great printer for our home office! And the price is good too. We used to have a Canon MP600, but it used several separate inks and they were very touchy! Many times we had to replace the inks not because the printer was bad, but because it didn't recognize that cartridge. It got very frustrating so we got rid of it and after doing some research on Amazon's reviews, found that the Canon MP470 was a really good printer and had only 2 ink cartridges. So far it has been good to us!
