Customer Rating: Summary: UNHAPPY Comment: NEEDS NEW HANDLE DESIGN, CONSTANTLY SEPARATES FROM CERAMIC KEEPER. EVENTUALLY FELL OFF WHILE CARRYING IT AND ENTIRE CERAMIC KEEPER SHATTERED.
Customer Rating: Summary: No tight seal means fruit fly infestation, at least in Colorado Comment: I just moved to Boulder, CO where composting seems to be the norm. I don't mind putting my food in a bucket instead of the garbage disposal, but I do mind the fruit flies that come seemingly out of nowhere when I began doing this. I bought this Ceramic compost keeper thinking it would solve the fruit fly problem. It did not. This product does not have a tight seal on the lid and consequently it allows fruit flies to enter and feast and breed on my rotting food until I make a trip out to the compost pile. Pretty disgusting. Other than that, it's okay..looks nice, washes nicely in the dishwasher, doesn't smell. If there is such a place with no fruit flies, it would work just fine there.
Customer Rating: Summary: Compost Keeper Comment: This is a good product. I wish it were just a bit larger, though.
Customer Rating: Summary: too fragile!! :( Comment: Like other reviewers have stated, it looks great. However, the first one arrived shattered and I thought it was an anomaly.
Unfortunately this wasn't the case. I found it to be completely impractical (too small) and the replacement shattered within 2 months. The ceramic just isn't made for real life. Too bad.
Customer Rating: Summary: Not Good Enough Comment: Like other reviewers, the handles slipped a lot and were hard to place back on the nub. A bigger problem was that this composter (we bought this one to replace a stainless one we had for a year and had to get rid of b/c my husband threw it, dented it, and then the lid didn't fit) attracted an absurd amount of fruitflies -- aprob we did not experience with the other, I think b/c the ceramic pot does not have a very good lid fit. No matter how often we changed the filter, fruitflies took over...in a matter of days. Depending on the day/menu, the pot would sit for a day or two under the sink or on the counter (it is pretty enough to leave out) and this became a problem. Easy fix: take it our more often, I know, but life gets in the way sometimes. The composter had a hairline crack going from the bottom to the top after the first month and shattered the second month when I was cleaning it. It now resides in the bottom of some of my potted plants. I need to buy a new one and might go for the ugly green one instead.
