Summary: Good story about a band coming of age college rock band
Comment: A group of unlikely teenagers find themselves together in the suburbs of Raleigh North Carolina putting together a band in which they have an idea of where they want to be, but no idea how to get there. They have the sound, they have the songs, but have minimal means. After a series of turns and breaking points on a road trip through southern college towns, they have to find themselves, and what matters to them the most. Is it the easy path, or the one less traveled.
A cast spearheaded by Kevin Corrigan, Lee Holmes, and Doug MacMillan, this film has several young actors playing the part of a young rock group as if it was their real lives well. This is done in a way with a little humor, and good drama. Overlooked when it came out, but worth wile for audiophiles to watch.

Summary: What a Neat Little Flick!
Comment: I just caught this one on cable, and really enjoyed it. Finely drawn characters develop at a leisurely pace in what many will say is a "typical" getting together a band movie. How unfortune for them that they will be missing the point. In addition to the truly quirky nature of the guys forming the band, and their various backstories, there are a number of nice smaller parts that let the movie open up and develop complexity. Too, the film was shot entirely on the wonderfully atmospheric locations, contributing to the sense of time and place required of the subject matter. Finally, I really love the Linus character. The laconic mannersims and the sudden hey-where'd-he-go visuals are perfect fodder for "was he supposed to be Jesus?" analysis of the flick. Too funny.

Summary: Chapel Hill Insider
Comment: I grew up in and around Chapel Hill and with all the bands that came up through that scene in the late 80's thru the mid 90's... so I take real offense to the reviewer that labled this as "just another" band movie. He appears to even be from the left coast... so what does he know about our college band life here on the southern "right-side"?? I was personally thrilled to find this movie on late night IFC rotation and see the real bars and clubs that bands like REM and HOOTIE came up playing... as well as lesser knowns like Dillon Fence. We followed these bands through these clubs religiously and occasionally they "made it" ( like REM and Hootie, etc...) This movie expertly shows that journey as well as gives a lot of us "locals" great cameos like members of The Connells...
You will love this movie if you are an indie-working-class-band-fan and especially if you are a long-time Carolinas rock fan!!! the glimpses of all your old fav clubs is worth watching the flick if nothing else! ;)

Summary: Rock & Roll Done Right
Comment: As someone who played in Rock bands for more years than I want to admit,I raise my half-price beer to this movie. This is the only movie about a rock band that gets it right, and drives a stake into all of the vapid, overnight sensation Eddy-and-the-Cruisers flops. Incidently, this is an engaging film even if you don't care about Rock & Roll. Funny, frustrating and real - check it out.
Thank you! Goodnight!

Summary: That couldn't be Ann....
Comment: When I was younger I saw a little article in Seventeen about this movie. It looked cool, but I didn't really think much of it. Then today, I was looking threw a magizine when I saw it would be one TV. I decided to watch the movie. Smart choice. This movie rocks! The music is really cool, and also the carictors. Lee Holmes plays the shy lead guitarist, who plays with his back to the crowd. He starts a band with a girl-crazy drummer, a slightly violent bassist, and a stoned fisher guiatrist. They get a van (the bandwagon, name theirselves Circus Monkey, and go on a tour. They deal with a band called Spittle, who think they're better than Curcus Monkey, being booed off stage, fights, and Ann. This is really a movie that makes you smile and made me really think about joining a band, if I ever get good enough. Watch this movie, you won't regret it
