Customer Rating: Summary: An angel of a CD. Comment: The hauntingly beautiful voice of Sarah MacLachlan, along with the beautiful words and melodies make this an A-one CD. The song "Angels" is my favorite, and I listen to it over and over again.
Customer Rating: Summary: Sarah is the Best! Comment: This is a great CD and Sarah is one of my favorite singers. Just recently I discovered Arrica Rose's new album La La Lost and it also blew me away. The poetry of their lyrics and beauty of their voices are unmistakeable.
Customer Rating: Summary: The voice of a decade! Comment: Sarah MacLachlan was the creator of a decade of sound, and a plethora of influenced musicians. Her sound still echoes in the the music being produced today. She was a great writer of ballads. This album is one that can be so easily listened to. No pretense, no electronic covering. The moments of silence are held as highly as are the moments of sound.
Customer Rating: Summary: Wonderful, pleasant voice Comment: Sarah Mclachlan is a gem to listen to. Her music and her voice is so soothing and so different from many popular artists out there, you can't help but fall in love. It is almost heartbreaking, the way she sings at times. I dislike to use this as an analogy, but she reminds me of a female James Blunt. They have a very similar sounding voice, and the way they sing, like I said, just heartbreaking.
This is probably her best album, in my opinion, though her others are quite good as well.
Customer Rating: Summary: Surfacing - Get the Japanese Import instead though! Comment: Sarah McLachlan certainly takes her time with her records. We waited
4 years after FTE for Surfacing, another 6 for Afterglow - and we're
still waiting for the new one! But Sarah's slow working technique
assures absolute quality in her records while a lot of more
modern artists just seem to crank out CD/Tour/CD/Tour without a pause.
Yes Sarah takes her time, but thank god - its always worth the wait.
Surfacing - her fourth studio album is an amazing piece of songwriting
and production, and I agree with the compression issues that have been
mentioned - get this album on viynl and you can hear the difference -
the record is so much superior to the CD - but records DO sound better.
I won't bore you with a track by track review of this album but what
I will say is if you must buy Surfacing - get the Japanese Import
edition for the beautiful Prayer Of St Francis which was recorded in
the same set but for some insane reason there was no place for it.
The song is short - only 2 minutes - but its arguably the most beautiful
track Sarah ever worked on. I love how she arranged the verses of Saint
Francis' prayer - so simple and elegant. Goosebumps assured.
