Summary: Simply the Best
Comment: The Original Three Tenors Concert was held during a very warm month: July. The actual date was July 7, 1990 at Terme di Caracalla in Rome, Italy, to commemorate the World Cup Football finals. The location was spectacular: the fabled Roman ruins of the Baths of Caracalla. The idea for this concert was for colleagues Domingo and Pavarotti to welcome back Carreras after his successful battle with leukemia and to assist his foundation.

Zubin Mehta was the conductor of two wonderful orchestras that night: The Rome Theater Orchestra and the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino. Over 12 million copies of this classical best seller have been sold and it may still hold the Guinness World Record for the best selling album.

José Carreras, Plácido Domingo, and Luciano Pavarotti absolutely inspired over 6,000 enthusiastic spectators and another 800 million watched it on television on that warm July night. The audio and visuals are good considering that this was done 18 years ago. There are absolutely no extras at all on this DVD; it is the wonderful operatic singing of three legends and their performance on this special night which is not to be missed. Much has been said about the performances that followed; but this one was very, very special.

One minor authoring glitch is that the viewer will also find at the end of the concert that the DVD does not automatically return to the beginning of the concert and menu.

When Carreras hit his B flat in Amapola one knew he had distinguished himself from his peers; Domingo was powerful and impassioned throughout; but Pavarotti when he sang Torna A Surriento and Nessun Dorma thrilled me personally; but it was O Sole Mio which touched my core and my ancestral roots.

Get the original; it was simply not only the first; but the best. This DVD will have no frills, no extras, no interviews; just god like vocals.

Highly Recommended

Summary: three tenors in concert
Comment: Good quality sound and good quality video of the first of the three tenors concerts. However it is a pity that as it is a NTC DVD it will not play on all DVD players around the world. It was received with a small amount of damage to the case.Three Tenors: In Concert

Summary: A Review--A Bit Belated
Comment: Though a bit belated--14 years--the music contained in this concert lives forever. For over 50 years I was involved in the very high end audio business, therefore I believe my review is presented with some merit. The Los Angeles Philharmonic could not have been any better , as is the chorus. The Tenors had the "bubbling over" audience at their mercy; even after the final encore, the applause, shouting, etc. would not stop. As usual, Pavarotti was the showman and his Nessun Dorma brought down the house. However, were I to choose a tenor for an opera, my choice, by a close margin, would have to be Carretras, though any of the three would do more than a little justice to any opera. The recording quality was/is supberb---tell the wife to leave the house and crank up the volume to really enjoy. Events such as this concert come along only once in a lifetime. Summary: The Three Tenors
Comment: I loved the Three Tenors on PBS about 8 years ago when they performed in America;however, they sing all their signature pieces that were on this DVD. How can anyone not appreciate this music with not just one but three of the most outstanding tenors in history. They just love to sing and the loss of Pavorotti will still linger in his music recordings and in our hearts. Thank you for the availability of this wonderful collection of outstanding DVD.
