Summary: An Italian Emisphere
Comment: I am italian and i read this book in summer 2007. There is no italian edition for this book so I read it in English. And by reading the book, and reading it in english, I understood something quite interesting:

I came to the conclusion that I read faster English books than Italians. I have also realized that when you read a foreign language the Right emisphere is much more involved because even if you don't know some specific words, you give much more importance to the context and to what the author is meaning. It' s bad when I miss a word in Italian and i feel the need to go back and read exactly every words in the period. That' s never happens when I read English. It would be a good example on the two emisphers' complementary.

For sure, one of the best book I have ever read!

Summary: Dan Pink nails it.
Comment: Dan Pink's AWNM is outstanding. Integrating the right and left brains creates an integrated person. An integrated person can engage the world with greater understanding and ability to make a positive difference. The biggest drawback was the cutout of the head on the cover, which caught on to everything, including my fingers as I tried to read the book. A small nuisance for a worthwhile read.

Summary: Compelling information, little application
Comment: Pink's premise: Business leaders seeking an edge in our competitive, tech-saturated world will require skills like design, empathy and storytelling to put their products and services out front. But the author's prescription for developing these sensibilities--like taking a drawing class or walking a labyrinth--are a bit pie-in-the-sky. Let's face it: attending a "Laughter Workshop" won't help me design the next iPhone. Still, the book has some interesting insights and anecdotes, like the inner-city, design-focused high school that has helped kids overcome major socio-economic obstacles.

Summary: Why every artist should read this book!
Comment: In a very reader friendly, easy and entertaining writing style, Daniel Pink explains why the left-brained (or as he calls them "Left-Directed Thinkers") have ruled supreme in the last few decades. The computer programmers, engineers, accountants and attorneys that many parents hoped we'd become. But with the "Big 3" of Abundance, Asia & Automation, many of those jobs are moving to India, China and the like.

So if those jobs are on the decline, what does he think is on the rise? (And in this economy, wouldn't we all love to know?!?) Here's the good news for my fellow creative, artsy type... US! We are the right-directed thinkers that will shape the future like never before. Here's a quote from the book:

"Left-brain-style thinking used to be the driver and right-brain-style thinking the passenger. Now, R-Directed Thinking is suddenly grabbing the wheel, stepping o n the gas, and determining where we're going and how we'll get there." (p.27 -- one of MANY dog-earred and underlined pages)

What he says MAKES SENSE. And it excites me since I have a degree in Marketing but a business licensing my art -- working both sides of my gray matter.

But the key to success, I believe, is being able to use your WHOLE-MIND -- hence the main title of the book. And as I turned the pages, folded corners, underlined passages and became giddy with ideas I had an epiphany... my time is now.

Artists looking for hope and excitement... read this book!

And to address some of the comments that say this book "isn't enough" as far as solutions... it is 244 pages everyone. That can't contain the secret to the universe. To me, this book is a book of understanding what is going on, exercises to prepare you for the future, and food for fodder to plan for your future. GOOD STUFF and worth the money to buy and time to read.

That is my 2¢!
