Customer Rating: Summary: Really good workout. Comment: I've done a few different video workouts before and this one has been one of the top. I wish Billy Blanks from Tae Bo could keep count as efficiently. I won't go into what's covered in the DVD, you can find that in following reviews. I've been using this DVD for over a month now. It has been very challenging and the warm-up to me feels like it's just a part of the core workout. It definitely gets your heart rate up.
The first time I did this workout I couldn't even finish it all the way through, but now I've grown accustomed to the movements and have paced myself. A couple of weeks ago I found that although it was making me sweat I wasn't feeling challenged. I changed that by adding weights to the aerobic section. The movements are simple and easy to follow. I would put this workout at probably an intermediate level but for the beginners, if you need to slow it down, do the "active rest" which is a boxer's shuffle until you feel ready to jump back in. (Eat salads too - hint hint.)
Highly recommend.
Customer Rating: Summary: A sweat all the time Comment: This DVD is definately for those who want a break from the gym kickboxing workout. I still get my heart pumping and sweat alot from this DVD.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great intermediate workout! Comment: This is a great workout for a moderate exerciser. It is highly energizing with easy-to-learn moves, little repetition, and a great mix of high intensity bursts followed by low intensity recovery. It is a nice length- it doesn't leave one wanting for more or exhausted. One can also get what they want from it. If you're feeling like a light day you can do the moves without much intensity. Conversely, you can grab a pair of light hand weights and go crazy! I have been doing kick-box aerobics for about 8 years and I'd say my fitness level is intermediate. I think this is a fun work out to mix in with a weekly routine.
Customer Rating: Summary: A Good Workout Comment: This is a worthy addition to any home fitness collection. You begin to feel the burn during the warm-up! You can choose to play the DVD as a 45 minute beginner workout or as a 55 minute challenge. Note: The "challenge" is the 45 minute workout with some supplemental material tacked on the end. Kathy leads the initial 45 minute workout. The challenge material features Keith Cooke (a martial arts champion/expert who appears in numerous Hollywood movies, including Beverly Hills Ninja) demonstrating some very cool moves that you can follow along with. A nice cool-down stretch is included, as is a brief segment of "light toning" that contains moves that will help you put more power behind your kicks and stabilize your core muscles. Also present on the DVD is a short Tai-Chi inspired workout led by one of Kathy's back-up exercisers.
The only drawback is, in my own opinion, that sometimes you stand in place punching for too long. I cool down really fast and standing still punching for very long makes my heart rate creep below my training zone.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great Workout! Comment: This is one of the first exercise DVDs I ever purchased (I bought it about 3 years ago) and I really enjoy it still. The workout is a good length and the moves are easy to master. I like all of the bonus features, like being able to add on the advanced combos and the Tai chi session. I also feel like this video gives you a good amount of warm-up and cool-down time with plenty of stretches to avoid injury.
One of the things I really like about the cool-down/leg exercises near the end of the workout is that she does all 4 kicks slowly using a chair for balance. This provides a good cool down while showing you proper form and conditioning your leg muscles so that you will have better kicking form next time you do the workout.
On a side note, Kathy instructs so that you can mirror her (i.e. she punches with her left and tells you to punch with your right) which I have an easier time following than the other way around.
